Benidorm, Elche and Alicante have a large number of bars, hotels, shops and services that cater for the LGBT population
The LGTB pride flag can be seen moving with the sea breeze throughout the Costa Blanca. A number of hotels, cruises and bars which cater for the LGTB population can be found in the province.
Tolerance and freedom are felt throughout the Costa Blanca, especially in Benidorm, where the first gay bar, called Gay Bar Pretex, opened in the 1960s. A tourism guide with places of interest for gays and lesbians has also been published.
Elche and Alicante have the largest number of places that cater for the LGTB population, followed by Denia and Torrevieja. From hotels to shops, restaurants, leisure spaces, relaxation centres, beauty clinics and interior design centres.
These gay-friendly places are found throughout most of the province, including rural tourism areas, which offer a number of hotels adapted to the tastes and interests of the LGTB population. There are also a variety of coastal enclaves, traditionally used in a happy and uninhibited way.
