Albatera is a medium-sized town whose economic activities
are distributed almost equally between agriculture, textile industry, and the
commerce materialized in the street vendors that run through the markets of the
entire province.
Thanks to a complex engineering of canals and ditches,
some of them from the Roman period, Albatera has managed to make almost all of
its agricultural land irrigated. The most important crops are citrus fruits,
pomegranates and figs. Along with agricultural activity there is a remarkable
industrial specialization in the manufacture of hemp products such as brooms or
brushes.
It is noteworthy the great urban and industrial
expansion of the town. It is a population that offers many facilities, such as
an excellent House of Culture, a Sports Pavilion, the Socio-Cultural Center
"Reina Sofía", House of Music, Citizen Center, etc...
In Sierra de Albatera stand
out leisure areas such as the Parque de la Montaña Reina del Rosario, a place
that hosts a pilgrimage during the Holy Week. A brief tour path, the PR-V-180,
runs through the Sierra.
