It is located next to the inland of Torrevieja and is
one of the smallest municipalities in the Bajo Segura district. Its name, in
Arabic “yauhar” means son of a pearl.
Benijófar has been linked to the Segura River and its floods,
but nowadays it is well-channeled ad regulated. It is a source of wealth for
its agriculture, especially for the cultivation of vegetables and fruit trees
that everyday provision the markets of all the cities and villages of the
province of Alicante.
It is worth visiting the Sotos del Segura River and
the existing fortified Noria. We can also enjoy typical gastronomy of the
garden.
