Beni, in Arabic means "son of", so all the towns whose name start with Beni have an Arab origin. In this case, Benillup means "son of the wolf". It is one of the smallest towns in the province of Alicante and has few inhabitants. This situation is due to the abandonment that suffered the agricultural villages in the sixties and seventies. Its economy is basically agricultural and it is located in the Protected Denomination of Origin area of the cereza de montaña de Alicante. The town center is small and its traditional typology is very well preserved.
