Bigastro
is located in the heart of Vega Baja del Segura district and near to Orihuela,
which has marked its most recent history.
Nowadays it is a modern, current and
very competent population, based on a great industrial and service activity,
with important professionals and young university students. Its traditional
agricultural past is preserved by the small owners of citrus orchards, and due
to its proximity to the Segura River. You can practice hiking and cycling
around the river.
The town presents an important industrial estate that offers
all kind of services; a recreation area known as “La Pedrera”, with barbecues,
mountain-bike tracks and controlled camping area; and other services. It is
very close to the reservoir that stores water from the Tajo-Segura transfer.
