Callosa d'En Sarrià

It is a traditionally agricultural mountain village located in the influence area of Benidorm and Altea, it has an important tourist exploitation, especially in the tourist complex of Fuentes del Algar.

In this town have been famous the historical disputes about the property or the limits of the municipality due to the wealth of its waters, since Callosa is located in the middle of the Guadelst, Bolulla and Algar Rivers, with its impressive fountains and waterfalls. Beyond the valley formed by the rivers are located mountains such as Aitana (1,558 m), Sierra de Bernia (1,360 m) or Ponoch (1,100 m).

Such water abundance and a mild climate have favored the production, in the typical terraces with stone walls (amargenadors), of Mediterranean crops such as almond trees, the vine and tropical crops such as kiwi, mango and, above all, loquat. Callosa produces more than half of the total national production of loquat, and has been granted with the Protected Denomination of Origin certification for the entire area.

Nowadays, Callosa is a beautiful white and ocher city with an old town in which you can visit the Church of San Juan Bautista, with its original neoclassical door by Antonio Gilabert Fornés, as well as the portal or medieval arch that provides access to the interior, or also the remains of a medieval wall, most of them located in Plaça del Castell, space where the residence of the feudal lord was located.
