Dolores

The origins of this municipality, as of the neighboring San Fulgencio or las Dayas date from the repopulations made by the Cardinal of Cartagena-Murcia, Sr. Luis Antonio de Belluga y Moncada in the eighteenth century, in these places that were marshy lands. Within the framework of the benefits that Felipe V granted him for being on his side in the War of the Spanish Succession.

Several towns were founded in this way, among them Dolores, and all of them dedicated to the agriculture. It is a town mainly dedicated to the fruit and vegetable production, especially the artichoke, and some livestock, celebrating one of the few fairs in the province, and of course the largest one, which takes place on the first Sunday of August.

It is also dedicated to the footwear manufacture, influenced by Crevillente and Elche.
