Los Montesinos owes its name to the nobiliary family that governed the destinies of the lands where the town is located. Since the reforms made by the Cardinal Belluga, the Vega Baja prospered and so did Los Montesinos, up to the current number of inhabitants. The agricultural tradition is changing by leaps and bounds due to the pressure of the coastal tourism, thanks to its proximity to Torrevieja and Guardamar del Segura, up to the point that the majority of its active population is dedicated to the service sector. This prosperity is reflected in the municipal projects that foresee building parks and gardens throughout the whole town.
