Pego

If you go up to the Figuereta, you can see the magnificent orchard that is Pego, covered by a green and orange landscape, highlighting the marsh and the slender tower of the Church of the Assumption from all the panoramic.

In times of the Taifa of Dénia it was one of its main possessions and after the uprising of Al-Azraq it became a real domain that ended up in hands of the Duke of Gandia, the Borgia family.

The war of Spanish succession in the eighteenth century destroyed its walled perimeter with 16 towers, although there are still some vestiges. The most emblematic monument of Pego is the Church of the Assumption where there is a triptych of great value, and the bell tower has curious cannons at its top.

It was traditionally linked to the cultivation of rice in the Marjal.
