Polop

The silhouette of Mount Ponoch or Ponoig (1181 mts.), The "León Dormido" (sleeping lion) by Gabriel Miró, and the profile of the population with the tower of the church of San Pedro and the old cemetery, mark the visual imprint of this attractive population, recreated by Gabriel Miró in his books: here he had a summer house, the "Casa de Sigüenza", located at the beginning of the road that leads to Guadalest. Here resided also Oscar Esplá and Benjamín Palencia, whose workshop is still preserved. In the famous Font del Xorrets, 221 pipes offer water to the surprised traveler. The best urban route is the one that starts from here and reaches the closed cemetery called by Gabriel Miró "huerto de cruces" (crosses orchard) that crowns the urban space. Polop still retains the typical character of the white and blue villages in the coast of Alicante.
